Hours: 38 hours per week across a 7-day roster from 7am-8pm.

One of the most important attributes we look for when selecting staff to work at St Louis staff is a desire to care for the elderly. Professional qualifications are a necessity, but a genuine desire to be a care worker is an important quality that enables us to continue to foster the family environment that we have.


We are looking for an experienced Personal Care Worker to join our St Louis Aged Care team.



The Role

Personal Care Workers assist in delivering indirect and/or direct resident support, maintaining a high quality of care and optimising Resident’s choices and wellbeing in a holistic manner. This is undertaken in in the homelike environment in accordance with the values and policies of St Louis Nursing Home and the St Louis Code of Conduct. Personal Care Workers at St Louis Nursing Home report to the Registered Nurse on duty, and the Nursing Home Manger.


St Louis Nursing Home staff work 38 hours per week on a roster across 7 days a week, applicants must have availability within 7am – 8pm.



Responsibilities and Tasks:

- Implementing care activities related to meeting a person’s choices under the supervision of a Registered Nurse

- Collects and records information as directed by the Registered Nurse or EN

- Reports and records changes in a person’s usual pattern or health status to the Registered Nurse.

- Demonstrates consideration and consultation in support delivery for Residents and their families.

- Provides care and support within the scope of the responsibilities concurrent with level of experience.

- Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and demonstrates ability to respond appropriately to direction and to follow instruction.

- Completes routine documentation as required.


To excel in this role and in turn become an integral member of our team you must meet the following requirements:



Qualifications and Clearances:

- Hold a Certificate III in Individual Support Ageing or equivalent

- Participation in formal and informal in-service training programs

- Overseas Criminal Convictions Statutory Declaration (form will be supplied during onboarding)

- National Police Clearance

- COVID-19 Vaccinations with booster

- Flu Vaccination ongoing requirement

- Knowledge of Aged Care Quality Standards

- Employees will be subjected to random drug testing



Skills and Knowledge:

- Undertake shifts as instructed and as per your regular pattern of work as prescribed in your Contract of Employment

- Strong commitment to caring for aged persons

- Bi-cultural and/or bi-lingual knowledge and understanding is an advantage.

- Sound knowledge of the needs of older people is essential.

- To maintain a professional approach and enhance the profile and image of St. Louis in the community.

- A knowledge of, and demonstrated commitment to, the principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety and an ability to apply them in work practices.

- Knowledge of Aged Care Quality Standards is desirable.

- Knowledge of infection control and work health and safety measures is desirable.

- Sensitive to the needs of aging persons of differing cultural backgrounds, including non-English speaking background.

- Empathy and compassion demonstrated while interacting with Residents and Residents’ families.

- Communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills required as an active team member of St Louis Nursing Home’s care team.

- Demonstrates respect toward Residents when providing care services and in daily interactions, treating Residents with dignity and respecting their autonomy and preferences.

- Maintaining a positive and uplifting attitude which enhances the environment at St Louis and contributes to the emotional well-being of Residents.

- Effectively organising tasks and managing time to ensure Residents receive timely care and support.



Experience:

- Working in an Aged Care facility or other health-related role is desirable.



Remuneration:

- AUD $30.50 - $35.00 per hour
