We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Parasitology who will contribute to the school’s strong research theme of ‘infectious diseases and biosecurity’. Working with several colleagues in the school, whose teaching and research are focused on veterinary parasitology and infectious diseases. The successful applicant will provide leadership, coordination, delivery, and assessment of this discipline across teaching, research, and governance leadership and engagement.

Your key responsibilities will be to:
• contribute to the research, education and administrative activities
• provide outstanding teaching and learning outcomes for veterinary and animal science students
• coordinate and develop curricula and programs within the School
• coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education
• enhance the positive workplace culture and strategic direction of the University
• maintain a reputation for academic excellence
• contribute to advancing knowledge within veterinary parasitology and infectious diseases
• maintain a research profile that meets University expectation and standard and enhance the reputation of the School, including, success in competitive research grants and other research income generation, publications in peer-reviewed international journals.

Since the founding of veterinary science in 1910, the mission of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS) has been to provide the nation’s best training in the health, welfare, and conservation of animals. The School is internationally accredited with the American Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK) and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council. Veterinary science at Sydney is ranked 2nd in the Southern Hemisphere and 22nd in the world, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings 2022, and has received the top rating (5/5) for research excellence in the Australian Government’s 2018 Excellence in Research for Australia.

The School operates across two campuses, Camperdown (inner-city) and Camden (semi-rural) and has three teaching hospitals that provide unique learning experiences and research opportunities. The School provides diagnostic services for clinicians and researchers using state of the art equipment. SSVS is home to over 80 academic staff and over 120 dedicated professional staff committed to ensuring the highest quality experience and outcomes for our DVM and research students. We employ a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to research, which in turn, informs our teaching. Our community of approximately 500 veterinary students and 50 higher degree by research students are enabled to develop their skills in inquiry, evidence-based medicine and innovation.

SSVS has seven primary research themes and academic staff are encouraged to develop their interest in these areas:
• Infectious diseases and biosecurity;
• Animal welfare;
• Wildlife health and preservation;
• Food security;
• Genetics, genomic and taxonomy;
• Evidence-based Clinical Practice; and
• Education

About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for an Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Parasitology who has:
• a degree in animal science and/or veterinary science
• a PhD (or near completion) in an area within veterinary parasitology
• a demonstrated established track record of publications in research in veterinary parasitology and/or infectious diseases
• experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
• demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
• experience in developing a network of relationships with key academic, industry, and professional institutions, partners, and stakeholders
• a demonstrated ability to attract research funding
• experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
• a demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums
• excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
• a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.

The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and knowledge.
