Barenbrug Australia Breeding Technician Based in Toowoomba Hands on role with a difference Exciting broad scope of activities across breeding, evaluation and extension. An integral component of our strategy has been our emphasis on research and development. At our northern research sites, we undertake a wide range of activities including breeding, variety evaluation, seed production and agronomic extension. We are looking to employ a highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic Breeding Technician to join our research team. This is an important role, working alongside our Research Agronomist and Northern Breeding Manager to successfully implement and manage our research & breeding program. In this role, you will undertake the day-to-day tasks associated with the operation of the breeding programs.  Key activities will include, but not be limited to: Management of research trials to the highest quality standards from end to end. This involves hands on activities since the design of the experiments and adequation of soil chemical and physical properties, sowing, fertilising, spraying for weeds and caring after plant health, harvesting and processing forage and grain crops, as directed by the Agronomist or Plant Breeder. Data collection, Data entry and statistical analysis producing reports of the protocols and results. Maintain equipment used in the daily activities accordingly to Work Health and Safety (WHS) protocols. Support, prepare and present trials and results for internal and external stakeholders, as well as farmers during events such as field days. The role is based from our Toowoomba office, however most work will occur on our research sites in the Toowoomba vicinity. The role will report to the Northern Breeding Manager. Occasional overnight travel will be required during the year. You will have a can-do approach, be hard working, have a demonstrated understanding of agricultural practices and experience with operating farm machinery. You will enjoy working autonomously, have a high attention to detail and accuracy in reporting, and be proficient with using computers for data entry. Tertiary qualifications in agriculture science or equivalent. You must have the right to work in Australia. The ability to travel between sites is important so a current driver’s licence is required to perform your role.
