This exciting opportunity is within the Strategic Communications & Advocacy team supporting with the branding and graphic design activities at Council.

 What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensure that all printed, online, and digital publications designed in-house are consistent with Council’s corporate identity, strategic objectives, and Hume Values.
  • Develop and implement guidelines, templates and procedures that ensure Council’s corporate identity is appropriate, targeted and enhance the profile of Council and the City. 
  • Provide advice and support across the organisation to influence the effective and consistent use of Council’s corporate identity. 
  • Monitor Council’s marketing and communications materials to ensure they adhere to corporate identity guidelines and arbitrate on any potential issues. 
  • Maintain a preferred supplier list of external graphic designers and liaise regularly with these designers to ensure effective implementation of Council’s corporate identity. 
  • Undertake design with a high level of creative flair, innovation, and technical judgement.
  • Perform a range of graphic design functions including scanning, designing, desktop publishing, electronic pre-press; and ensure all designs can be technically produced within agreed budgets and specified timelines. 
  • Liaise with external designers, commercial printers, paper suppliers and external agencies to achieve consistent and cost-effective production of printed materials. 
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to ensure the efficient and effective use graphic design. 
  • Ensure that all projects produced are of the highest quality, with particular focus on attention to detail, checking authors’ corrections prior to returning proofs, and layout consistency. 
  • Facilitate the production and timely distribution of Council’s printed publications (including community newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, and other materials). 
  • Arrange and take photographs for Council’s external communications and ensure all images are uploaded and managed within the system appropriately.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated ability to be highly creative and innovative to deliver effective visual solutions that support Council’s corporate identity and effectively communicate with a wide range of target audiences. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in using design and multimedia software including Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and other Adobe software as well as computer skills, particularly with packages including Word for Windows, Excel & PowerPoint. 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with a range of clients from diverse backgrounds and work as part of multi-skilled team. 
  • Managing time, setting priorities, and planning and organising own work to achieve specific and set objectives in the most efficient way possible within the resources available and within a set timetable. 
  • Proven capacity to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. 

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in graphic design, visual arts or other appropriate design discipline OR lesser formal qualifications with relevant work experience in graphic design or visual arts using a variety of electronic visual arts tools (Quark, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and other Adobe software). 
  • A current driver's license.
