The Network Platform Engineer works with a team of network engineers, cloud engineers and infrastructure engineers to build, operate and support the Corporate IT, Data Centres, Cloud Platforms and Broadcast Operations networks.
Ideally you are a Mid Level Networking Engineer with an interest in the DevOps side. You have a desire to solve your issues with automations, “Work Smarter - Not Harder”. If it happens you don’t know how to solve an issue you’re eager to find out, challenge the status-quo and come up with a solution.
Our Ideal candidate has around a 50/50 split between Dev and Networks, but it’s ok if you’ve specialised in one or the other, as long as you are willing to learn.
You will be part of the Infrastructure and Corporate Technology group which also supports the on-premises compute and storage platforms as well as some cloud platforms and ERP systems. The Nine network includes sites across Australia including staff work areas, television production, transmission sites, print production sites and Radio studios. The network team operates the local area network, wide area networks, internet connections, wireless LANs, fixed telephony, cloud connectivity and the core professional media networks across all of these sites.
This is a large-scale national network with multiple end-user sites, multiple data centres, multiple cloud connections and multi-layered cyber security programs. It is a complex network including a mix of Firewalls, unicast Routing, multicast routing and cloud technologies. This role requires a skill set that spans across ISP, Broadcast and Corporate IT technology.. Due to the network size and complexity, automation of network management is a key priority and is expected to be the number one solution to the challenges you will face.
Role responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution:
- Contribute to the planning, execution, and completion of network infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, budget constraints and deadlines.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
- Work closely with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
Network Design and Optimisation:
- Collaborate with the network architect and senior engineers to design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient network solutions.
- Continuously assess network performance and reliability, recommending improvements and implementing solutions as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Coordinate with internal teams, including IT Infrastructure, broadcast operations, cloud platform engineering and commercial systems teams to understand their network requirements and incorporate them into project plans.
- Foster strong relationships with vendors, ensuring the effective support of network equipment and services.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical expertise in DevOps adoption and Network Engineering.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, collaborating with the support team to ensure minimal downtime.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and project status.
- Generate regular reports on project progress, risk registers, key performance indicators, and network performance metrics. Participate in regular project update meetings.
